About this Game

Number Memory - Test Your Short-Term Memory

"Number Memory" is a free interactive mental challenge that tests your short-term memory's ability to retain and recall numbers. The game runs directly in your browser without any downloads or sign-ups. The concept is simple but progressively harder: a number appears on screen for a few seconds, you must memorize it and type it back after it disappears. Each level adds one more digit, starting from 3 and potentially reaching 15 or more!

How does the game work?

When the challenge starts, a random 3-digit number appears with a countdown bar showing the remaining time to memorize. The display duration increases gradually with the number's length to give you fair time. When it vanishes, an input field appears for you to type what you remember. After submitting, a digit-by-digit comparison is displayed — each correct digit shown in green and each mistake in red. Correct answer? You advance to the next level with a longer number. Wrong? Game over with your final score and detailed statistics.

What does this game measure?

Number Memory measures what is scientifically known as "working memory" or "digit span." This metric is actually used in psychological and neurological tests to assess cognitive abilities. The average person can remember about 7 digits (known as "Miller's Magic Number 7 plus or minus 2"). If you exceed 9 digits, your memory is above average, and if you reach 12 or more, you have an exceptional memory that places you in the top 1% of people.

Tips to improve your performance

There are scientifically proven techniques to improve number memory. "Chunking" is the most well-known: instead of memorizing 9 separate digits, break them into groups of 3 (like a phone number). "Narrative linking" associates each digit with a mental image. Internal repetition also helps — repeat the number in your mind quickly while it's displayed. With regular practice, you'll notice significant improvement in your level.
